Caries is a disease that, if not detected in time, leads to the complete destruction of teeth. Filling makes it possible to halt the progression of the pathology and restore the anatomy and function of the tooth. Unfortunately, almost everyone has faced the need for a filling. There is no reason to be afraid of visiting a dental clinic. Today, thanks to modern materials and local anaesthesia, a long-lasting result is guaranteed, along with the absence of pain or discomfort during treatment.
Functional features of the filling material
A filling is used in place of natural tooth tissue. That is why materials with a high level of strength and health safety are used. Their primary task is to withstand mechanical stress and sharp temperature changes. A filling stops the progression of the pathology and also creates a barrier against the further spread of caries, which can lead to pulp inflammation.
At Vishnyak Dental Clinic, fillings are placed using modern, reliable, high-quality material. The most common are light-cured (photopolymer) and organically modified ceramic fillings.
How a filling is done
- Dental diagnosticsFirst, a correct medical assessment must be made. For this, radiovisiography and an orthopantomogram are taken, which help choose the most appropriate treatment method.
- AnaesthesiaEvery patient has their own threshold of sensitivity and pain. To relieve discomfort, special medications — anaesthetics — are administered to the patient.
- Removing decay and placing the fillingWith a dental drill, the doctor cleans the affected tooth and disinfects the cavity walls with a special acidic compound. Then a filling is placed and hardened using ultraviolet light.
Tips before and after a filling
There are no special requirements for the patient, and no special preparation is needed.
One recommendation is to eat beforehand (light food only), since anaesthesia is not given on an empty stomach. After eating, be sure to brush your teeth thoroughly.
After a filling is placed, you usually need to:
- do not eat for an hour, as there is a high chance of injuring your lips or tongue while the anaesthetic is still working;
- avoid foods and drinks with a staining effect (for example, coffee, beetroot and other products).
You may feel discomfort, the cheek may be irritated by the teeth, or the filling may feel sharp and cause a tingling sensation. In that case you should see the dentist again to correct such issues.
Remember that previously placed fillings can be replaced with new, modern, high-quality ones. We recommend treating caries at the earliest stages to prevent the development of pathological processes.
