Maxillofacial surgery is one of the core specialities of Vishnyak Dental Clinic.

At our clinic, experienced doctors regularly perform operations that help restore the appearance and function of the maxillofacial area and address the consequences of injuries. The removal of growths is also a common practice.

The clinic has everything needed for maxillofacial surgery — the latest innovative equipment, modern technologies and safe methods of anaesthesia. Maxillofacial operations are performed by top-category, highly experienced doctors — surgeons and anaesthesiologists.

Tooth extraction

Tooth extraction is a surgical procedure, even though removing the tooth presents no difficulties and is a standard case. Our clinic performs standard maxillofacial surgery operations, and our doctors also have experience in emergency surgical interventions when an inflammatory process has already begun and there are purulent abscesses or injuries. Wisdom teeth receive the close attention of our dentists, as extracting them requires a professional approach. Before the extraction, the patient is sent for an X-ray, which is needed to get a full picture of where the roots are located. If necessary, an examination with a tomograph is carried out.

A frenulum defect — what to do?

The frenulum is a fold that anchors the upper lip to the jaw. If an orthodontist or speech therapist considers corrective surgery necessary, you should heed the specialists and book a maxillofacial operation. A very short frenulum can cause speech disorders. Such a physiological defect reduces the quality of chewing, and so-called “pockets” may form in the gum. Doctors diagnose this problem in children in good time, and correction can be carried out even at an early age.

Frenuloplasty is performed using various methods:

  • Incising a too-short frenulum
  • Removing excess tissue
  • Repositioning the attachment point of the fold.

For frenuloplasty, maxillofacial surgery uses methods that allow the procedure to be performed quickly without sutures. After maxillofacial frenulum-correction surgery there are no complications or scars.

Cyst removal operations

A jaw cyst is a growth shaped like a tissue “sac” filled with fluid. It commonly occurs when various microbes enter the tissue, and there are also hereditary defects — a congenital cyst. Microbes penetrate through the tooth canal into the tissue, causing an inflammatory process and forming a cavity in which dead cells and decay products accumulate, creating suitable conditions for bacteria to multiply. The focus of inflammation is surrounded by a dense membrane. The cyst grows daily — initially a small granuloma forms, but if the growth is not removed in time, it can reach a considerable size and trigger complications.

A cyst can be detected with an X-ray and CT. Preventive check-ups help diagnose the problem and perform maxillofacial surgery in good time. If you feel discomfort, have pain or an abscess, you should book an appointment with the dentist immediately.

At Vishnyak Dental Clinic, top-category doctors will do everything necessary to restore the teeth and preserve the jaw. Where a large area is affected, destruction of the jawbone is possible. If a cyst is found, the specialists remove the affected area through maxillofacial surgery, along with part of the root. At the initial stage of the disease, when the cyst is small, it can be treated with medication — the dentist introduces special medicines and antibiotics into the affected tissue through the tooth canal.

Guided tissue and bone regeneration

Weak and minimal bone tissue is a fairly serious problem, since it significantly reduces the possibility of placing implants later. The outcome is resorption — complete destruction of the bone tissue. As practice has shown, the problems begin with the very first tooth losses, which distorts the dental row and can later change the facial expression, with the corners of the mouth drooping and the lower jaw appearing to recede. Tissue and bone regeneration is a procedure that lets your dental row regain its former beauty, while the patient general health noticeably improves.

Mucogingival surgery

When positioned normally, the neck and root of the tooth are well covered by the gum, which is fairly dense and light in colour — a pinkish shade. But if the gum is observed to soften or shrink, doctors call this tissue death. As a result, the neck of the tooth becomes exposed, and in more severe cases the root is exposed. The likelihood of the tooth being eroded by caries then increases significantly, and sensitivity rises. But these are not the worst consequences — if qualified help is not sought in time, resorption begins: the bone tissue simply disappears before your eyes and the tooth loses its strength.

Soft-tissue growths

There are frequent situations where various growths appear in the mouth, on the face or in the neck area. The development of papillomas, fibromas, lipomas and nevi must be monitored, since growths can turn into malignant tumours. There are more than enough causes of growths:

  • mucosal injuries
  • harmful habits
  • the presence of viral infections
  • chronic diseases
  • negative environmental impact and ecology
  • poor nutrition.

Only an experienced doctor can assess what stage of development a growth is at and whether there are indications for maxillofacial surgery. To prescribe effective treatment, the dentist examines the patient, refers them for an ultrasound and issues a referral for the relevant tests. To determine the condition of the bone tissue, an X-ray is taken.

At Vishnyak Dental Clinic, modern technologies and effective maxillofacial surgery procedures are used to treat growths. The specialists use treatment methods that guarantee an excellent aesthetic result. In addition to maxillofacial surgery, electrocoagulation and cryodestruction are used, and for vascular tumours sclerotherapy is performed.
