Among the types of corrective dental structures are corrective plates made of polymers and metal wire. The dental appliance is fixed with special hooks and retaining clasps. This pressure is aimed at correcting the width of the palate and the displacement of teeth in the mouth.
Plates are used when it is necessary to influence the normalisation of jaw growth and, in individual cases, the shape of the jawbones.
The appliance can normalise speech in certain dental disorders — for example, when a speech impediment is caused by the incorrect positioning of teeth.
Depending on the purpose of use, plates are divided into types:
- single-jaw — when correction is needed for a single tooth or one row.
- with a springy push-wire — exclusively for correcting the upper row of teeth.
- with a retraction arch — for correcting a significant tilt of the teeth.
There is also a range of corrective plates for more complex dental cases. Their choice is determined by the orthodontist individually together with the patient. This may be a Fränkel appliance — a complex removable two-jaw device made of two arches for restoring a correct bite.
